While button downs, pencil skirts, and dresses are the obvious choices when it comes to perfecting your summer office look, I love to switch things up a bit by adding color and prints to my wardrobe, especially during the warmer seasons.
It can be easy to shop for an array of different colors, but lately, I’ve been more and more into prints, especially polka dots! I know they may seem a bit childish, but there’s nothing more fun than this cute print, don’t you think?
To keep things “office appropriate,” I opted for black and white. While they are the typical colors of the business wardrobe, attention to details always set outfits apart from the ordinary, don’t you agree?
1. Pay Attention to Your Silhouette
As always, never underestimate the silhouette of your ensemble. I firmly believe that fashion isn’t just about knowing how to wear trends; it’s knowing how to incorporate them with your own flair, and knowing how to dress for your body type.
Since I have slightly wider hips, when wearing dresses, a fail-safe silhouette is the a-line dress, since the skirt flairs out nicely and draws attention to my legs.
And while I don’t typically opt for other silhouettes on a day to day basis, I’ve been super attracted to the mermaid dress silhouette lately because it’s super flattering on girls with wider hips, don’t you think? I love how it hugs my figure in all of the right places, giving the illusion of fuller curves, while still highlighting my legs!
2. Don’t be Afraid to Add Ruffles
Of course, since polka dots are already such a cute and youthful print, it definitely doesn’t hurt to add another element of fun to the ensemble, right? If you’ve been following the trends these past few seasons, then you’d know that ruffles have been all the rage, and how can we disagree?
To avoid looking too comical, though, be sure to opt for slightly more subtle ruffles, so that it complements your business attire, instead of juxtaposing too much, so that the look isn’t too disoriented.
3. Bows and Ties, but Not Bow-Ties
And of course, there’s nothing more “business” formal than bow-ties, right? Haha but I’m definitely not talking about adding “bow-ties” to your polka dot ensemble.
Instead, I’m talking about “bows” and “ties!” There’s nothing more feminine than bows, and I love how this dress incorporated this as well, giving the fun polka dot print a more sophisticated and mature feel, don’t you think?
