It’s no secret that prints are one of the more popular choices in the summertime, and that’s mainly because they add the perfect element of fun to just about any outfit!
While stripes and polka dots may be the more common choice, I’ve been a huge fan of fruit prints because they’re so quirky and cute, perfect for some fun summer dressing! And although they may be a bit more “youthful” and “girlish” than your average floral or checked print, fruity patterns can definitely make for a chic ensemble as well! Read on to see how I add a street style flair to this fun print!
1. Opt for a Darker Base Color
Although no one likes a white dress for the summer more than me, there’s no denying that darker colors instantly elevate an outfit, making it more chic or street style appropriate. This is why I opted for this cherry printed dress instead of the usual lemon or pineapple prints, since the red fruit still looks amazing against a black base! Plus, a darker color instantly helps to streamline your figure, so get ready to flaunt that summer bod!
2. Pay Attention to the Overall Fit and Silhouette
Maxi dresses, especially printed ones, are the epitome of a romantic summer afternoon, but since we’re going for a more street style look, steer clear of longer lengths! Instead, opt for mini dresses, since they’re not only more youthful, they’re a lot more casual, making it easier to style in terms of streetwear.
For this look, I specifically chose a simple spaghetti strap dress, with a slight a-line flair at the skirt because it helps to show my waist and accentuates my legs, while still being casual and effortless. When choosing overall fits and silhouettes, make sure to go for options that help accentuate the areas of your body that you’re most confident about.
3. Pair with Oversized, Rugged Outerwear
Of course, what’s a street style look without some oversized and rugged pieces? To instantly add the perfect androgynous touch to ensembles, I also reach for my boyfriend’s jackets because they fit a little looser on me, and the more masculine details, such as rugged denim, sporty fleece, and silver studs, help to give my overall look a more street style feel.
A little tip to not get swallowed in the oversized fit of your boyfriend’s jackets – try to show a sliver of skin by wearing the jacket slightly off=shoulder or on only one shoulder. This adds a subtle touch of sensual femininity back to the outfit.
4. Choose Sneakers Over Heels
And last but definitely not least, remember to pair your dress with sneakers! While it’s a no brainer to wear heels, flats, or sandals with your dresses, especially in the summer, don’t forget that a street style look is never complete without a nice pair of kicks!
My favorites for dresses or skirts are the Adidas Superstars because they’re so comfortable and versatile yet effortlessly chic. Plus, the shoe makes your feet look pretty slim, so it adds that street style vibe to an ensemble without taking away the dress’s overall air of femininity.

Absolutely love how your styled this fun dress, Elizabeth!
It’s super cute and flirty, and it’s such a cute statement piece for the summer 🙂
The moment I saw it I actually thought, ‘Wow, I love that the base colour is black!’ even before I read your comparison it to the white base. Major yes to a pair of sneakers – they definitely compliment any street look.
Looking gorgeous! Hope you’re enjoying your summer to the fullest ❤
