How to Style a Statement Faux Fur Coat

Aside from the influx of camel coats, trenches, and teddy-shearling jackets during the colder months, in the last two years, one of the most seen outerwear trends is the statement faux fur coat. And what’s not to love about it? There’s just something about faux fur that adds an instant touch of vintage glamour to just about any outfit, don’t you think?

With countless designers and boutiques coming out with so many different crops, cuts, and shapes this season, there are so many ways to style faux fur coats for a polished look that embodies a certain Upper East Side winter elegance.

1. Pick a Faux Fur in a Leopard Print or Patchwork Pattern

One of the best ways to make sure your faux fur coat stands out is to pick one with an interesting print or patchwork pattern. My personal style has always veered more towards neutrals and basics, but for a statement coat like this, I can’t help but to be drawn to this black and white leopard print. There’s just something about the fun pattern that sets it apart from your normal faux fur coat, making it an outerwear piece that can pull together even the most casual of outfits for a super chic look!

2. Wear Over a Dress for a Classy Feminine Look

With a thicker fuzzy exterior and extra padding inside of the coat, a faux fur jacket makes for the perfect way to stay warm without wearing a literal blanket out. Especially if you’re attending a fancy dinner or party, a faux fur coat makes the perfect cozy outerwear to wear over a pretty evening dress, since it adds not only visual interest and dimension, the statement piece gives off an unparalleled note of sophistication.

3. Pair with a Simple Sweater and Denim Combo to Add a Touch of Effortless Chic

Since the holiday season is over, I’m not really attending any fancy parties anytime soon, so I opted to pair this statement coat with my usual winter LA uniform, which consists of a simple sweater and denim combo. Though my outfit is very cozy and casual, this coat adds the perfect touch of effortless chic to it, giving this simple ensemble a point of focus. Plus, it’s a great way to stay warm, don’t you think!

4. Choose a Bulkier Silhouette to Emphasize the Exaggerated Look

And of course, nothing says “statement” and “exaggerated” more than the silhouette, which is why I always opt for the oversized, bulkier alternatives when I’m looking at faux fur coats. The bigger the coat, the more exaggerated it looks, so it emphasizes that effortlessly chic, yet glamorous look.

  1. This coat looks so cute on you and I love how you’ve paired it with this outfit! I haven’t been feeling like trying on a leopard print up until now, but seeing the black and white version of it on you got me thinking! Great post!
