Aside from “not wearing white after Labor Day,” another antiquated “color rule” in fashion is not wearing navy and black together. I find this rule a bit outdated, though, because there’s nothing more well paired than these two dark colors, don’t you think?

Navy is like a slightly brighter version of black, though it’s still just as strong and distinct. And everyone already knows that black is a wardrobe classic, timeless and sophisticated. Pairing these two together just seems like a no brainer, right?

While black is a “powerful” color, especially in the corporate environment, never underestimate the confidence that navy brings! I’ve been loving this silk navy top, not only because the fabric is so comfortable, but also because the silhouette is super chic, and while the color choice is strong, silk still offers a subtle femininity.

One of the best things about wearing monochromatic outfits is the optical illusion of proportions, and that’s also one of my favorite aspects of pairing navy and black together. Tucked in to a black midi skirt, we can elongate the whole silhouette for a look that’s very flattering on the body, giving off the illusion of being taller.

Paired with some simple suede ankle boots that are perfect for the fall and a light lavender clutch, this outfit is elegant, yet chic and office-appropriate!
