On off-duty days, the last thing to think about is how to dress, don’t you agree?

On the weekends, there’s nothing I like more than casual dressing (especially in sporty/athleisure inspired outfits). At the same time, though, I still want to look “presentable” because I noticed that it’s always on days when I look like a slob that I coincidentally run in to some old high school classmate or something… 😒 Does that ever happen to you?

To avoid any more embarrassing situations like this from happening again in my life, I’ve come up with a tried and true formula of button downs and denim that ensures that even on my off-duty days, I still look effortless yet chic.

I know button downs can often be thought of as boring workwear pieces, but I like to think otherwise, especially because they’re so sophisticated, and when chosen in the right fabric and fit, they can also be effortless and chic.

I love this baby blue one that’s made of a soft woven fabric because it’s different from your traditional crisp button down work shirts. With a looser silhouette and an off-shoulder neckline, this shirt is perfect for an off-duty day, and the high-low hem makes for the perfect half-tuck, one of my favorite ways to instantly elevate a top for a chic look!

And of course, what better way to style this shirt than with some classic jeans?
Denim will always be a wardrobe staple, but the difference in the wash, cut, and details can really determine the whole vibe of the ensemble.

For this off-duty outfit, I opted for a pair of super skinny, dark washed, slightly distressed denim to complete that effortless weekend look. The super skinny silhouette is perfect for the top, which is looser, so it helps to streamline the figure for a more put-together ensemble. Darker washed jeans also let the baby blue of the top stand out, but at the same time, the distressed details on the knees balance the sophisticated vibes of a button-down.

Add on a simple choker, some dangling earrings, and a pair of suede booties, and the outfit is complete!

  12. Aw man, I ran into a cute friend in the grocery store and I was looking basic af so I feel you! Luckily most of my off days are at home so I can afford to look like a bum lol!
