This fall, trousers (or more specifically menswear-inspired trousers) are one of the top trends that I’ve been seeing both on the runways and the streets this season, and honestly, I can’t say I’m surprised.
There’s just something about the looser fit and masculine silhouette that screams chic and sophisticated, yet refined and effortless. The key to rocking this trend, while still maintaining a certain ladylike vibe, is to add in subtle feminine touches through color, fabric, silhouette and details.
In choosing a color, rather than sticking to the standard shades of menswear trousers, such as black, grey, navy, or even pinstripes, I opted for a nice dark olive, one of fall’s most stylish neutrals. I love how olive resonates with autumn so well while still adding elements of femininity to the ensemble, since this neutral shade is such a trending color in fall womenswear.
In terms of fabric, rather than sticking to the traditional stiffer fabrics of menswear trousers, I’ve been loving a loose yet cool woven texture, since it’s perfect for the transitional weather. With a lighter fabric, skin’s allowed to breath, and the trousers also sit more loosely and effortlessly on the body, allowing feminine curves to show through.
While there are so many cuts when it comes to trousers, I find myself gravitating towards this high-waisted, wide straight-legged design because it not only elongates the legs, it also accentuates the waist for a more feminine look.
Paired with a crop top that bares the waist, laid-back wedged sandals, and feminine details like a self-tie belt, this menswear inspired look is girly enough to still be a cute date outfit, but it also incorporates elements of masculinity that sets it apart from other fall looks.
