The athleisure street style trend has been taking the fashion industry by storm in the last few years. And let’s be honest, what’s not to love about it? I mean, who doesn’t want to be both comfy and stylish at the same time?

The only hard part is… there’s a fine line between looking like you’re effortlessly chic in your street style workout attire versus actually looking like you… well you know, worked up a sweaty, sloppy storm (literally).

While athleisure derived from “workout” clothes, it’s not just sweatpants and old tee-shirts. I like to think of athleisure style as an implementation of silhouettes, layers, and textures to create looks that not only work for the gym, but can also exist on the streets.

Sports bras may be a little too much (more like too little) to wear on the street, but with a cover-up, it can definitely work! In choosing a top with open sides and cut-out back details, the cover-up keeps it sophisticated while also adding an element of understated sexiness. It reveals just slivers of skin without baring too much and makes for a street style look that’s still subtly feminine in its sexy details.

And of course, with a loose-fitting top, to balance out the ensemble for an outfit that’s not sloppy (because you don’t want to give off that impression), pairing a form-fitting bottom makes for a chic and more put-together look. These leggings are comfortable, but at the same time, the lace cut-outs on the sides help to elongate the legs, streamlining the silhouette for a more form-enhancing look, don’t you think?

And of course, accessories can further help to refine the whole ensemble, and I added touches of street style chic with fashion-forward sneakers like the Adidas NMDs and a snapback.
