‘Tis the season! The holidays are quickly approaching, and with the season of joy comes a string of invitations to a variety of events, and I can’t be more excited! No matter the occasion, the thing that I always anticipate the most is… dressing for the holidays!
Although I love fancy party dresses, more often than not, holiday parties aren’t always so formal, so it’s always good to keep some semi-formal or dressier casual outfits at arms length, just in case the occasion calls for it.
One of the classic ensembles that I love to wear for more casual holiday parties is a skirt and sweater combination, since it can range from cozy and effortless to slightly dressy and chic.
Chiffon and satin are two fabrics that can never go wrong, particularly when it comes to holiday ensembles, since they’re dressier and give a softer and more refined look. Not only is this rich chocolate brown satin midi skirt effortlessly elegant, the layer of chiffon on top gives it a slightly more fun twist, adding a touch of youthfulness to the outfit.
Another plus about skirts – the elastic waistband isn’t as restricting as the waist of trousers, so it’ll let you slip in that second helping of dessert 😉 Plus, by wearing the skirt at your natural waist, it also helps to cover your “food baby,” in case you ate a little too well during the holiday feast! A double plus, both functionality and style, all in one!
And while you can definitely pair this skirt with a simple blouse, I decided to pair it with this open back knit sweater to add just a subtle sexy touch to the whole ensemble. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile now, then you’ll know about my love for tops with intricate back detailing, as shown here, here, and here, so it should come as no surprise that this sweater also has an open back. It definitely adds an element of chic to the outfit, don’t you think?
