One of the most sought-after silhouettes of the fall is definitely the longline coat or cardigan. With its longer length that often hits mid-thigh or below the knees, longline outerwear is the epitome of understated yet chic autumn fashion.
In a rich olive green color, one of my current obsessions for the fall, this longline cardigan was especially irresistible because of the side splits that elongated the whole silhouette by accentuating the length of the thighs and calves.
When choosing outerwear, remember to look for pieces with details like side splits, vertical ribbed knit patterns, or knee-length hems to help add some subtle length to the ensemble as a whole.
Both side splits and knee-length hems physically elongate the figure by creating a mirage of longer limbs, and likewise, vertically ribbed knit patterns almost unnoticeably enhance height. The thing about fall and winter outerwear is that the pieces tend to be a little boxier and bulkier than usual, which is why it’s important to pay attention to these subtle little details to make sure you don’t get lost in all of the extra fabric.
Luckily for me, though, this cardigan’s made of a thin, ribbed-knit fabric that’s perfect for fall in Los Angeles, since it’s not too thick, but at the same time, protects the arms from the chilly evening breeze.
To further add even more length to accentuate the side splits, I paired it with a pair of my favorite new skinny jeans, a simple white lace camisole, and low-heeled booties.
