Leather and suede – the two fabrics that are almost synonymous to autumn. More often than not, leather and suede come in a a variety of rich colors, such as deep maroons, rich emeralds, navy blues, and warm browns, but the most classic color choice, of course, is none other than black.
As we slowly start to delve deeper in to fall, I feel that it’s only appropriate to add some leather and suede to my wardrobe. Plus, the mix of textures, through leather, suede, and mesh, definitely gives an otherwise all-black ensemble depth and definition, as well as just the right touch of edginess.
Though it’s technically already almost the end of October, it doesn’t really feel quite like it yet in Los Angeles (just 2 weeks ago, we had triple-digit temperatures, so fall is a little… summery here in Southern California). This is why I opted for a halter crop top paired with a mini a-line skirt because there’s no other way to survive the bizarre heat waves that we get in LA.
The crop top has a little mesh lining on the neck and shoulders, which I love because the peekaboo details make it stand out despite its classic silhouette and color.
Likewise, I chose an a-line skirt because it’s a silhouette that I personally feel flatters my body shape very well. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile now, then you’ll know that I’m pretty self-conscious of my thighs, and I find that a-line skirts hit the thighs at exactly the right spot to make legs look extra slim and long. I pay particular attention to the types of fabric that I choose, since I want a skirt that flares just a little because it can really help to draw attention away from the thighs for an elongated silhouette.
And even though I’d really love to wear the leather jacket, it’s almost impossible in the afternoon, so it can serve almost as a statement piece that’s draped around the shoulders until night falls, which is when it actually starts to get a little chilly.
And last but not least, I’ve been loving these suede booties so much because the heel isn’t ridiculously high, but at the same time, the shape of the shoe makes my feet look so slim and small.
