A Modern Twist on the 90’s Plaid-Around-the-Waist

Hello loves and Happy Thursday!

Can you all believe that it’s almost Memorial Day weekend already? πŸ™‚ May’s almost coming to an end, which means it’ll officially be summer in just a few weeks! I can’t wait for the longer days, later sunsets, and afternoons just spent sipping iced cold lemonades on the sandy beach! Can you?

For Memorial Day weekend this year, I don’t have many exciting plans yet, but I’m pretty sure there’ll be an outdoor gathering or barbecue party either thrown by my family or friends. On casual outings like this, I don’t really like to dress up because I want to be as comfortable as possible for all of the walking around πŸ™‚

Since it’s been uncharacteristically chilly during the nights in LA recently, opting for a long sleeved ribbed crop top seems like the perfect choice, don’t you think? The crop top may be long-sleeved, but my stomach is still exposed, so it won’t get to overbearingly warm during the afternoon.

When night comes, though, I also won’t be too afraid of the colder winds due to the flannel shirt that I have around my waist. During the day, it can act as a styling piece that adds just a bit of movement and layering to an otherwise figure-hugging silhouette, but at night, it can also function as the perfect cover-up. Plus, the bright red is perfect for a patriotic holiday like Memorial Day, don’t you think?

Paired with my new favorite skinny jeans and my trusty Nike Roshe Ones, this outfit is sportyΒ and comfortable, yet chic with a trendy cropped top and statement flannel shirt.

And of course, how can I forget this beautiful rustic choker that I received from Vicky from Vicky’s Scrapbook? The chic rose gold and leather matches perfectly with the color of my cropped top, and I love how delicate it is. It adds just the right touch of femininity to the whole ensemble and pulls everything together for a perfect sporty casual day look that’s just a little reminiscent of the 90’s-plaid-shirt-around-the-waist trend, don’t you agree? πŸ˜‰
