I Got A “Boy”

So California’s been going through some weather fluctuations lately. It’s almost the end of May, but some days, it’s so dark and gloomy that it feels like it’s going to be winter again (and the chilly mornings and nights definitely don’t help).

And even though I really like the cool weather, the cold mornings and warm afternoons make it really difficult to get dressed in the morning because I want to stay warm but don’t want to burn up later in the day too.

On days like this, layering is key, but that doesn’t mean you have to forgo style 🙂

I put together a cute yet weather-friendly outfit that’s not only does its job in the fluctuating temperatures, but also looks sweet and simple.

With a loose fitting top that has slightly longer sleeves than a typical t-shirt and a thicker cotton blend, I can stay cool because the loose-fit doesn’t trap in unnecessary heat, but the slightly thicker material can also keep me warm.

Throwing on a long cardigan not only adds dimensional layers, but also gives the whole outfit a more put-together look, as compared to the casual street style of the t-shirt. Plus, it can keep your arms warm if it gets too chilly! 😉

Wearing a skirt alone might not be too practical since it can get cold, but with tights, you’ll not only stay warm, but the added detailing of tights gives the whole ensemble a more polished feel. In order to pop against the gloomy weather, I chose a maroon colored skirt, and it not only contrasts nicely against the gray skies but also the black tights and white shirt that I’m wearing.

Going off of the maroon skirt, I also chose a satchel that’s a brighter red, which pops even more, giving the simple look a cuter and younger vibe 🙂

The beanie, which is useful when it’s cold, can also be used as a styling accessory, making the whole outfit not only funner, but also a lot cuter.

To finish off the whole look, I chose a pair of oxford-like booties in a dark tan color so that it matches the color-scheme of my cardigan and beanie.

On Me
Shirt: BOY London 3/4 Sleeves Loose Top in White, Gift

Cardigan: Hollister Fletcher Cove Cardigan in Ivory, USD $39.40

Skirt:: Forever 21 Classic Skater Skirt in Maroon, USD $5.90
(The Maroon is sold out on the website, but there’s a variety of other beautiful colors as well)

Shoes: Steve Madden Madden Girl Dontee Oxfords in Taupe, USD $69.99

Forever 21 Faux Leather Crossbody Satchel in Red, USD $27.90

Forever 21 Slouchy Sequined Beret Beanie in Tan, USD $9.90

Target Tights in Black, USD $5.00

This outfit is perfect for those days when the weather’s just being bipolar – just because it’s cold and hot and cold again doesn’t mean we have to give up our style! Instead, we can take advantage of the situation to dress in light layers, using color to make a statement! 🙂 Although it’s a laid-back and casual look, the bright pops of red can make this whole outfit cute and sweet! Let me know how you all like to layer in the comments below! 🙂 Hope you all enjoyed this OOTD, and I’ll be back again soon!
